We’re excited to announce that Republic has acquired Compound, a real estate investment platform that lets everybody invest in real estate around the world in small dollar increments. Compound is based in New York City and has been backed by some of the biggest venture capital firms in the world, including NEA, Founders Fund, Global Founders Capital, and Kairos. 

Compound has a seasoned real estate team with decades of investment experience through various market cycles. 

Together we’re launching Republic Real Estate, bringing you access to high-quality real estate investment opportunities to complement your existing startup investments with Republic.

This is great.

However, it is a shame that I cannot invest in these campaigns. They are only available for US citizens.

Matthew Melbourne @duke-kirkendoll Hey, Duke. It depends! These first three offerings (republic.co/real-estate) that we launched with are all Reg CF offerings, which do count toward the SEC's annual limit Reg CF investment limit.

In the future, we will offer investment opportunities using Reg A+, which has a different investment limit structure that doesn't count toward your Reg CF limit.

Congratulations on the new product!

1. Are there any information on what advantage does this bring to say investing in Fundrise and other equity (or even debt based) real estate crowdfunding platforms?

2. Interest in LLC (or membership units) would mean you will be providing K-1 forms at the end of the tax year? Or they will be agreements so K-1 will only apply in case of conversions?

To answer your questions:

1. Most of the offerings on Republic Real Estate will be individual properties, so you can build your own personal portfolio. We also focus on the world's top cities—places like Miami, Nashville, Austin, NYC, Paris, and beyond. In addition, the majority of crowd investing platforms are open to accredited investors only. At Republic Real Estate, our investment opportunities are open to everyone.

2. Since we intend to elect to be taxed as a REIT (a form of corp.), we will provide 1099-DIV forms to investors each year.

Julia Schwartz Hi, @demaryo-platt! When you invest, you are investing in a single condominium unit, the ownership of which has been divided into 100,000 equity interests. For example, if you buy 10,000 interests, you would own 10% of that condominium’s stock. Each property is owned by Compound Projects, LLC, and when you invest in a condominium, you become a shareholder in a sub-company (a Series) of Compound Projects, LLC that owns a specific condominium.
